In December, Lunstrum Electric assisted Thu in Vietnam by helping her to purchase construction materials and pay wages for laborers to build a hygienic toilet!
Thu is 34 and married with two school-going children. Her family belongs to an ethnic minority and resides in the mountainous region of Ngoc Lac district, facing challenges of difficult transportation and being 70km away from the city center. Thu's husband works as a construction worker, while she is employed as a grocery store clerk. Despite their combined income, the family struggles to make ends meet. The deteriorating state of their sanitation facilities has been a long-standing issue for the family. Due to financial constraints, she has decided to ask for this first loan to purchase construction materials and hire laborers to rebuild their sanitation facilities, aiming to enhance the overall quality of life for her family.
What is Kiva?
More than 1.7 billion people around the world are unbanked and can’t access the financial services they need. Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. Through Kiva's work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care. By lending as little as $5 on Kiva, you can be part of the solution and make a real difference in someone’s life. 100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans. Kiva envisions a financially inclusive world where all people hold the power to improve their lives.
